Nigerian content creator and entrepreneur Waris Olayinka Akinwande, popularly known as Ola of Lagos, has revealed why he continues to live in a rented apartment despite owning houses of his own.
The luxury lifestyle influencer made the revelation during a recent appearance on the KK Show, where he explained that paying rent gives him an added motivation to remain focused on his work and businesses.
According to Ola, he has never slept in any house he purchased with his own money. He explained that living in a house he owns could make him too comfortable and reduce the pressure that motivates him to keep working.
Why Ola Chooses to Rent
Ola said his decision is based on his personal approach to financial discipline. He believes having a major recurring financial responsibility reminds him that he needs to continue working and generating income.
He reportedly disclosed that he currently pays about ₦50 million annually in rent, despite having properties of his own.
For Ola, the strategy is less about whether owning or renting is financially better and more about what keeps him personally motivated.
However, he stressed that his approach should not be viewed as advice that everyone must follow. He acknowledged that people’s financial situations and priorities are different.
“Look at Your Current Situation”
Ola also shared his thoughts on how people should approach major purchases after making money. He noted that buying a car, for example, could potentially create opportunities that eventually help someone acquire property.
His message was essentially that financial decisions should be based on an individual’s circumstances rather than following a general rule about whether to buy a house or a car first.
The revelation has generated conversations among social media users, with many discussing Ola’s unusual approach to wealth, property ownership and personal motivation.
Ola of Lagos has built a strong public profile through his luxury lifestyle content, business activities and automobile-focused media presence. His latest comments offer another glimpse into the mindset behind his approach to money and success.
For the influencer, continuing to pay rent—even while owning property—appears to be a deliberate choice designed to keep him ambitious and financially active.
