Boluwatife Balogun, the teenage rapper known professionally as Champz and the first son of Nigerian music star Wizkid, has released a new single titled “Groove.”
The track arrived on streaming platforms in the early hours of Friday, September 25, 2026. The release marks another step in Champz’s developing music career, following the release of his earlier projects.
Champz introduces a new track
In “Groove,” Champz delivers a relaxed rap performance built around catchy hooks and conversational lyrics. The song features references to personal ambition, enjoying life and maintaining his own priorities.
TheCable reported that the track combines an easy-going musical style with lyrics that reflect Champz’s emerging identity as a young artist.
Building a music career of his own
Champz began attracting wider attention after releasing his debut EP, Champion’s Arrival, in November 2025. He later released Young Poet, which reached the No. 2 position on the Nigeria Apple Music albums chart in March 2026, while Wizkid’s collaborative project with Asake, REAL, held the top spot.
In previous interviews, Champz has spoken about developing his interest in music from a young age, including making beats and writing songs. He has also said he does not feel pressured to match his father’s achievements, noting that he is still young and has time to grow as an artist.
Recent public attention
Outside his music releases, Champz has drawn attention for public appearances and social-media posts. In May, a video of him delivering a speech at a student-led TEDx event at Grange School in Lagos circulated online, with viewers commenting on his confidence and presentation.
His growing visibility has also brought discussion about the opportunities and expectations that come with being the son of a prominent musician. Champz has continued to release music while developing his own artistic profile.
Looking ahead
With “Groove,” Champz adds a new single to his growing catalogue. The release follows his two EPs and comes as he continues to establish himself as a young rapper in Nigeria’s music scene.
As he develops his sound and gains more experience, future releases will give listeners a clearer picture of the direction he intends to take as an artist.
